7 Tips to Invest in your God- Given Potential

We are all distinctly different, with diverse and unique giftings bequeathed to us by our Creator God. Yet so often, we hanker after the gifts or resources that we see in others, bemoaning our lack of ability, application or assets with self- sabotaging lists of “If only’ s…” “If only I was… If only I had… If only I could…”

This can often blind us to what we do have because we spend far too much of our time looking longingly into the lives of others rather than focusing on our own blessings.

So, maybe it’s time to recognise the unique gifts we ourselves have been given, taking time and effort to make an inventory of the many blessings in our lives, and asking ourselves some honest questions as to whether we are fulfilling our God-given potential?

Personality
Who am I? What characteristics, qualities and traits make me, me? What am I happy about? What aspects need to be worked on?

Passion
What brings me alive? What do I love to do? What things do I do, where I lose track of time? Am I truly following my passions?

Proficiency
We are not simply born into proficiency but have to gradually learn how to do things better. How good am I at what I love to do? Can I invest in time and energy to commit to being better, so that I can serve others?

Position
Where we are matters. How can I make a difference in the communities I live in, or places I have influence? Am I wasting or nurturing opportunities to be “salt and light” wherever I walk?

Possessions & Property
In our secular society, we are encouraged to want more than we need. Yet, we are usually given what we need when we need it, and Scripture encourages us to ask in faith. Am I stewarding well all that I have been given?

Passing it On
Adhering to the Way of Christ means sharing all we have, to enable others. Yet we often hesitate to do so, rather than journeying through life with open hearts and open hands. Am I passing on the skills I have to leave a legacy of love and a contribution to society?

Potential
I can only achieve my true potential when I am following Father God’s way for me, investing in all that I have been given to be the best I can be. Am I really investing in my gifts, honing them and collaborating with others to learn from them and work with them?

Maybe it’s time to recognise our unique capacity to be a gift to others, as we truly invest in the combination of aspects that make us who we are and allow God to work through us to enable others.

For we are valued greatly by the Creator King of Kings; and known intimately by name. In this way, we are like a star’s spectrum; for just as each person has unique fingerprints, every star has a distinct spectral pattern that allows astronomers to identify it individually.
This is how we are individually designed and known by God…our personality, passion, proficiency, position, possessions, potential are designed as a whole to be a blessing to others through the unique combination of all that we are; designed to be starlight to light the way to Him who made us, when we truly invest in all we have been given through the help of His Holy Spirit.
