Have you ever had a big project to finish that just seemed insurmountable? One of those projects with many parts to the whole, that appeared to grow in complexity and size, looming larger and heavier the more you thought about it… so much so, that it felt way beyond your capabilities?
Yet, despite this, when things get tough, I so often feel like I’ve just got to knuckle down, get on with it, and cope… (anyone else?) I often find myself looking increasingly inward, with my self-confidence at low ebb as I overthink and complicate what needs to be done, wondering where I have the strength or time to get on with what needs doing. What I so often forget, is that I do not need to struggle alone, feeling overwhelmed and battling in my own strength. All I need to do is to seek help…
Many around us, if we could but ask, would be prepared to help us in some way, but all too often we wear our cloak of capability and battle on alone…
As Christians we have the ultimate helper…. for when big projects, difficult times, ill health or any other burden become mountains that seem too large to tackle, we can look beyond the mountain to the Mountain Maker, who provides us with His strength to carry on. So, we can press on through whatever difficulties we face, in the knowledge and certainty that God Almighty, in his love and care for us, watches over us, stands beside us and keeps us safe now and always.
I look up to the mountains- does my help come from there?
My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth!
Psalm 121:1-3, NLT
So, when I reach the end of myself, and remember to focus on the One who gives strength and hope; the Maker of Mountains- rather than inwards at my own human limitations, I realise that He has given me all I need to finish whatever feels insurmountable right now…
I pray that whatever mountain you might be facing today that you, too, might be able to look beyond the mountain to the Maker of Mountains to provide whatever you need to finish well.
